How long has Sunnybrook School been operating?
Sunnybrook School was founded in 1952 and has been at its present location since 1960.

Why is IB important to Sunnybrook?
The IB provides a curriculum framework, which brings learning to life for children. The IB PYP offers a global curriculum and teaches the values of global citizenship. Sunnybrook School has become a leader in the world of IB PYP, both locally and internationally.

Do you provide care after school hours?
Sunnybrook has an After Care program from 4:00 – 6:00 daily, which can be used on a regular or on an occasional basis. A Homework Studio is available on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3:50 – 4:30 pm for students who stay in After Care. Before Care begins at 7:45 am for no fee.

What if I need daycare for March Break and Summer for my young child?
We are aware that this is a need for many of our families with young children. Although we do not have a program, we do provide a list of programs available and are happy to consult with parents to find the best solution for your child for the summer months.

How do you use technology?
Technology is integrated into the curriculum at all levels with our 1:1 iPad program. Digital citizenship and coding are parts of the technology program. The iPads are used in age appropriate ways and we have a balanced approach to how much they are utilized in each grade. Smart Boards are also found in every studio and enhance the learning experience for students.

Does Sunnybrook School have a lunch program?
Our lunch program comes at no extra cost and is provided daily by the school. The meals are prepared fresh daily on the premises by our SBS chef.

What is your class size?
Sunnybrook classes are 16 – 20 students. Our student- teacher ratio is 1:9.

Can students enter at any grade?
Sunnybrook School accepts students in all grades, as long as places are available.

How do you select your students?
Students are selected on the basis of an interview with parents, an assessment of the child and availability of space. As the children get older, the assessment becomes more differentiated. We welcome students and families who will benefit from our program.

Where do students go after Sunnybrook?
Sunnybrook students attend a wide range of schools after Sunnybrook, primarily going to the large Toronto private schools such as UCC, Crescent School, Royal St. George’s, St. Clements School, Branksome Hall, Havergal College, Greenwood College and the York School. We support our families through the process and have a high success rate of placing our students. They are well prepared and ready for the transition to Grade 7.

What extra curricular activities are available?
The extra curricular activities available at Sunnybrook vary from year to year. They include sports (basketball, soccer, cross country running, ball hockey, etc.), choir, house games, and clubs, such as: chess, Mandarin, robotics, visual arts, science, guitar, dance, digital camera, video animation, yoga. SBS is a member of the Small School Athletic Federation (SSAF) and our students compete in tournaments across the city.

What is the average tenure of your teachers?
The average tenure of our current faculty is 10 years.
